Season Summary

It’s Ash Ketchum’s tenth birthday, and he’s ready to do what many 10-year-olds in the Kanto region set out to do—become a Pokémon Trainer! About Pokemon Indigo League

Pokémon: Indigo League is the first season of Pokémon, a Japanese anime television series known in Japan and in South Korea as Pocket Monsters (Poketto Monsutā). It originally aired in Japan on TV Tokyo from April 1, 1997, to January 21, 1999. In the United States, it aired on the first-run syndication from September 8 to November 20, 1998, and on Kids’ WB from February 13 to November 27, 1999. In South Korea, it aired on Seoul Broadcasting System from July 14, 1999, to June 14, 2000.

The season follows the adventures of the ten-year-old Pokémon trainer Ash Ketchum (voiced in English by Veronica Taylor, in Korean by Choi Deok-hi, and in Japanese by Rika Matsumoto) and his electric partner Pikachu (voiced by Ikue Ōtani) as they collect Gym Badges in the fictional Kanto region so they can compete in the Pokémon League competition at the Indigo Plateau.
